Don’t say I didn’t tell you so, seeing the Rays as underdogs here was something I was happy to jump all over and cash in at the sports books. This team is simply unstoppable right now, and the Phillies damn sure aren’t gonna be the team to stop them. The Phillies are one of the sloppiest teams in baseball, and one of the worst at driving runs in. The Rays are the best in both categories. Honestly if Brett Phillips wasn’t out there hawking down anything that was hit in right field the Phils may have had a fighting chance, I would project him as stopping at least 2 or 3 runs single handedly in that game last night. This loss stings for the Phils as they had Wheeler almost go the distance just to get absolutely annihilated by a second deck blaster from Mejia. That was arguably an even better struck ball than Harpers 445 bomb. Rhys fought through the pain and tied it up at 4-4 with a solo shot late in the game, but boy did Mejia answer to shut up any fan that thought they might be walking out of the bank happy. All in all Wheeler looked great, and the Phillies actually got to the Rays bullpen. I don’t think they should have taken out Yarbrough who was throwing some nasty stuff the Phillies didn’t want much to do with. He was clocking pitches at around 73 mph but when they get outs they get outs. Heartbreaker for the Phils who really are gonna need to get going if they want to catch the Braves, lucky for them they have a pretty easy stretch to end the year, but they need to produce more runs and get the wins they are supposed to, something Philly teams inherently struggle with. The Phils are glad to be done with the Rays this year as they are 0-6 against the Rays dating back to last year. The Rays get to go down to Baltimore to start a series on Friday and I would probably back the Rays on the run line in all three of those games. We see the Phillies welcome the diamondbacks to town and they will be looking for revenge after being swept in Arizona, tomorrow is huge for the Phils let’s see if they can take care of business.
